The rise of Benito Mussolini and Fascism.
Published in 1935.
A little history: George Seldes was sent to Italy in 1919 as a correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. He was to report on the "Red Revolution" where he would meet the then Socialist Journalist, Benito Mussolini. Seldes would return to Italy occasionally until he was permanently assigned to Rome in 1924.
During his transfer from Berlin to Rome, he stopped at Paris where he met his colleague, William Bolitho. He informed Seldes that the Fascist regime was working to suppress the early history of Fascism and Mussolini.
While in Italy, Seldes worked to find rare documentation that the Fascists were trying to destroy. He also reported on one of the biggest scandals of the time, the assassination of Matteotti. Despite massive censorship by Mussolini's propaganda ministries, Seldes was able to send the story of Matteotti to Chicago. The story also printed in Paris which caught Mussolini's attention.
Seldes was immediately ordered out of the country (1925). While leaving on the Orient Express, the train was stopped by the Modena squadristi who attempted to forcibly remove Seldes. He was able to avoid being assaulted by posing as a British admiral.
Seldes would continue to work as correspondent to the Chicago Tribune. The facts he uncovered and his experiences in Italy became the basis for his book Sawdust Caesar (1935).

Subject: Message to the "expert"
Anyone can claim they're "experts" in anything these days. Also anyone who denies that a banking bailout isn't fascist has discredited themselves from the start. It has nothing to do with left/right dialectic politics, it has bro do with the money and real power behind the scenes. Who are these powers behind the scenes? Look no further than the wealthy families who run all the tax exempt "foundations". Take your pick.

....controlled media owned by six families in the USA and like a hungry wolf ready to gobble any shift or wake-up call to the sheeple dozing away to rampant crime/porn/drugs and debt and a unified front of Kosher groups taxing their food (non-food as well) and geniciding Western culture with federal lawsuits towards open borders that engulfs the entire country. Marxist Communist Chinese threat; no problem. Black hate crimes of grotesque torture, rape and sadistic mutilation to whites are ignored by the ADL --just normal stuff. Zionists/Israel/Mossad in every nook and cranny of the 9/11 debacle....no big deal. The Nazis are coming...ah there IS a headline.

TequilaKid, if I may quote from the opening two paragraphs of this book.
"FASCISM NOT ONLY EXISTS IN AMERICA, BUT IT HAS become formidable and needs only a Duce, a Fuehrer, an organiser, and a loosening of the purse strings of those who gain materially by its victory, to become the most powerful force threatening the Republic.
Those who cannot see the growth of Fascism or deny its existence are either the many who do not know what Fascism really is or the few who prefer euphemism--a patriotic American name for a distinctly European product."

Subject: Rare opportunity
Subject: Rare opportunity
This book provides readers with a rare opportunity to read a comprehensive biography of Mussolini prior to WWII and without the preconceived filters inherent in post war media. At the time of this book’s writing, Mussolini was being touted as a legitimate leader throughout the world, including the USA. (This is probably why the author devotes an entire chapter to criticize Mussolini’s policies -- something that is likely unnecessary for a modern reader.)
The book is thorough, however, a bit disjointed. Seldes seems to jump from subject to subject haphazardly. But there is good stuff in there if you’re willing to stick with it. Seldes is particularly good at following the money trail that contributed to Mussolini’s rise to power. He also doesn’t shy away from revealing the connections between Fascism and Corporatism.

The book is indeed informative.
The previous reviewer likens Mussolini to Barack Obama. I happen to be an authority on Fascism, having grown up in a Fascist-ruled country (Spain) and studied the history of European Fascism in considerable detail, including its Spanish, German, Austrian, Italian, Norwegian, Romanian, Portuguese and Hungarian varieties.
Anybody who seriously advances the notion that Obama is in some way akin to Fascism is (a) a nitwit and/or (b) a purveyor of Republican lies. This standard GOP li(n)e has no basis in history. Any similarities that the Sawyer individual saw between Obama and Mussolini were the product of his encyclopaedic ignorance.

Subject: Greatest Mussolini Book EVER!
Subject: Greatest Mussolini Book EVER!
This is incredible. It's great that Archive.org exists for reasons like this. Seldes wrote this while Mussolini was in power, so there are first hand accounts and interviews in it, not to mention Mussolini's writings on fascism, the organic state and the corporate state.
Funny thing is, Mussolini has a lot in common with our current President. In fact, so much that it's scary.
